WhatsApp has announced a new option to disappear message conversations that allows recipients to keep individual messages if the sender approves the request.
“Hold in chat” allows users to long press on a disappearing message and ask to keep it, which sends a notification to the sender: “Someone saved your message so you can check it again.” The sender can allow the save to continue or veto the request.

Today we’re introducing Keep in Chat, so you can save the text messages you need for later, with a special superpower for the sender. We believe that if you’ve sent the message, it’s your choice whether others in the chat can save it for later.
WhatsApp says that if a user decides that their message cannot be saved by others, their decision is final: no one else can save it and the message will be deleted when the time expires.
If a recipient requests to save a disappearing message and the sender allows it, the message gets a bookmark icon to indicate that it can be found in the user’s saved messages folder, which is organized by chat.
WhatsApp says the feature will roll out globally in the coming weeks.
