Trump’s war with DeSantis intensifies as Larry Elder joins the 2024 race – live

Trump claims New York court staff were ‘crying’ when he was arrested

Donald Trump’s war with Ron DeSantis continues to escalate with the former president meeting with Florida lawmakers on Thursday in a bid to try to beat the governor in his own state.

“A large group of congressmen and women congressmen from Florida who support me, everyone who supported me, is coming to Mar-a-Lago tonight,” Trump boasted on Truth Social on Thursday.

DeSantis has yet to announce a 2024 race, but is expected to become Trump’s biggest Republican rival in the race.

Meanwhile, one man who has announced his offer is Larry Elder.

The conservative radio host, who made an unsuccessful bid to replace California’s governor in a 2021 impeachment effort, announced Thursday that he is running for the Republican presidential nomination.

This comes as one of Donald Trump’s main allies, and one of the few remaining key vocal deniers at Fox News, leaves the network. Dan Bongino announced the news Thursday, blaming the inability to reach a contract.

Judge scolds lawyer for withdrawing from defendant’s case on January 6

A federal judge in Washington scolded a lawyer for withdrawing from a defendant’s case on January 6, delaying the man’s trial but not referring him to disciplinary action.

US District Judge Trevor McFadden, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, said he was considering referring the attorney, Joseph McBride, to the court’s complaints committee.

He said it appeared Mr. McBride misled the court when he withdrew from the case of Christopher Quaglin, accused of assaulting officers during the January 6 riots.

McBride told Judge McFadden that another lawyer familiar with the case, Jonathan Gross, would take over.

However, Mr. Gross asked Judge McFadden to delay the case because he does not practice criminal law.

Mr McBride explained that Mr Gross would only serve as lead counsel “for a while” until a replacement was found. He later clarified that his client fired him because he thought the judge didn’t like him.

Donald Trump says he has ‘universal’ support in Florida

Rumors are swirling that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will announce his run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination soon, and Trump is showing his face.

For months, the former president has been launching attacks on DeSantis as the public begins to turn on the two Republican leaders.

But more recently, Trump has been more aggressive about making progress against DeSantis by seeking the endorsement of members of Congress in DeSantis’ home state.

On Truth Social, Trump bragged about his achievements and said he has “near universal” support in Florida.

“A large group of Florida congressmen and women who support me, everyone who supported me, is coming to Mar-a-Lago tonight. Our support is near universal in Florida and throughout the United States,” Trump wrote.

Florida representatives Greg Steube, John Rutherford and Brian Mast have endorsed Trump.

New poll shows half of Democrats think President Joe Biden should run again in 2024

Only about half of Democrats think President Joe Biden should run again in 2024, a new poll shows, but a large majority say they are likely to support him if he becomes the nominee.

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll shows that 26% of Americans overall want to see Biden run again, a slight recovery from the 22% who said that in January.

The ambivalence among Democratic voters comes as Biden prepares to formally announce his 2024 re-election campaign next week, according to people briefed on the discussions.

Both the current and former presidents could face resistance from the general public in a general election. A full 65% of American adults say they would definitely or probably not support former President Donald Trump if he were nominated in a general election, including 53% who say he definitely would not.
