A Michigan woman’s Mother’s Day is going to be very special this year: She graduated from college and had a baby, almost on the same day.
Kelsey Hudie wanted her diploma so badly that she attended her graduation ceremony when she was in the early stages of labor.
The Henry Ford College graduate was 38 weeks pregnant and dilated when she showed up to the event last Saturday.
“I thought nothing would stop me, even if I have the baby and have to hold it in my arms,” she told Fox 2 Detroit.
The Dearborn resident, who studied liberal arts and plans to become a teacher, received the news that she was due to give birth four days early.
“The Tuesday before we graduated, they said I was dilated two or three times, so that wouldn’t stop me from walking the stage,” she told Click On Detroit.
Once the community college professors found out about the situation, they allowed Hudie to sit on stage and called her out earlier in the show than initially planned.

“I have to tell you, I wasn’t planning on talking so early in our start,” he said. college president Russell A. Kavalhuna to the assembled crowd.
After receiving his diploma, Hudie went directly to the hospital.
She finally gave birth to her baby girl Nyla on Monday.
