A suspect who allegedly shot a six-year-old girl and her parents after a basketball rolled across their front yard has been arrested in Florida.
Robert Singletary has been taken into custody and is in custody in Hillsborough County, Florida, according to Gaston County spokesman Adam Gaub.
Authorities described Singletary as “armed and dangerous” after violence broke out in Gastonia, North Carolina, Tuesday night.
Gaston County police said in a statement that the suspect turned himself in to Florida authorities.
“The suspect, Robert Louis Singletary, 24, turned himself in. Mr. Singletary had no identification on him. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office processed Mr. Singletary and confirmed his identity shortly before 7 p.m. tonight,” the agency stated Thursday night.
The suspect is scheduled to appear for the first time in court in Hillsborough County on Friday, April 21 in Florida.
Family members identified the injured youth as Kinsley White, who was released from hospital overnight, according to Queen City News.
The girl’s father, William White, was also shot in the incident, and her mother, Ashley Hilderbrand, was grazed by a bullet, WSOC-TV reported.
“We don’t even know the man,” Kinsley, who required stitches for bullet fragments in his cheek, told the television station. “Why did you shoot my dad and me? Why did you shoot the father of a child?
Ms Hilderbrand told the station that the suspect had threatened the lives of her husband and daughter.
“She looked at my husband and my daughter and said: ‘I’m going to kill you,’” she said.
