I love my trick to stop reclining airplane seats, but is it unethical?

This could be unexplaneable.

A TikToker user is sparking debate after posting an “unethical life hack” about what to do when someone is reclining their seat across from you on a plane.

The video, posted by user @thelkshow, has reached 2 million views.

“When you’re on a flight and the person in front of you reclines their seat all the way, leaving no room for you,” they advised.

“Turn the air conditioner on you to maximum and aim it at the top of his head.”

The Post reached out to the TikTok user for comment.

In the clip’s caption, they also added, “The plane ride is so long when you have one of these people in front of you 🥱.”

However, while this may be a tip you can fly with, it drew mixed reactions from viewers, with commenters debating general etiquette around whether or not you should recline your seat in the first place.

“People who complain about reclining seats are the worst kind of people,” one person commented.

“The seats are so uncomfortable… everyone should recline collectively! 💺”, another agreed.

Someone else chimed in: “Yeah, I won’t be sitting upright during my 10-hour flight, but the seat reclines for a reason.”

“The goal is for everyone to recline so you have more space,” noted one TikToker. “Those tickets cost a lot of money. I’m going to do what I want hahaha 😂.”

However, others noted that reclining the seat is not acceptable and would like to try this hack.

“I wish I would have done this 😭,” wrote one commenter. “The guy just told me that the seats move so far back for a reason. I was crushed the entire flight.”

One user seconded: “Unethical? 😂 I think this is completely reasonable.”

“I’m never going to recline,” one person chimed in. “I think the person behind me is already uncomfortable enough that I sit down a couple of inches to give them a little breathing room.”

However, this TikToker is not the only one who has sparked a debate about airplane etiquette in recent months.

In April, a passenger sparked a debate after he put his feet on the headrest of the seat in front of them.

It was posted on the Reddit community, r/mildly irritating, where the original poster, seefooddiet2200, claimed that the passenger had reportedly propped her “stinky feet on the headrest” during the unspecified flight.

Another man caused controversy after he revealed that he “absorbs” himself on flights, and he doesn’t have a problem with that.
