Mayor Eric Adams did not appear at this year’s Met Gala honoring the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, after the hizzoner caused a sensation at the annual soiree last year in a colorful tuxedo.
Last year, the mayor of New York donned an “End Gun Violence” tuxedo, a political stunt that showed similarities to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Eat the Rich” dress from 2021.
The 2022 Met Gala marked the first year that Eric Adams earned an invite to the coveted charity event and brought along his partner Tracey Collins. Adam’s tailcoat was adorned with faces representing children who have lost their lives to gun violence.
The mayor was praised for his “great sense of style” by his press secretary, Fabien Levy.
“He wants to send a message specifically. One of the things that is causing problems in our society is gun violence,” Levy told The Post last year of Adams, whose latest efforts have revolved around pest control as Manhattan’s rodent infestation worsens.
His invitation to the “Super Bowl of Fashion” is no surprise: he’s rubbed shoulders with the likes of Naomi Campbell, A$AP Rocky, Cara Delevingne and even Met Gala director Anna Wintour.
Politicians have been known to attend the Met Gala, which is mostly swarming with notable designers and A-listers.
Last year, former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton walked the red carpet in a maroon Joseph Altuzarra gown, but she had a twist. The names of renowned women in American history were hand-embroidered on her dress.
